Canadas Acceptance of Refugees Refugees and immigrants have always been a big part of Canada, especially starting from World War I in 1914. They have made a huge impact on the country, on both its economy and culture. Even though there may be some down sides to the immigrations to Canada, on the whole Canadas acceptance of refugees has and still does, improve the economy and culture. To begin with, refugees from all over the world promote diversity since they hang onto their traditions and beliefs even after they moved to Canada. One of the Canadian Statistics says that Of immigrants who arrived here from 1991 to 2001, 71% rated at least one of their ancestral origins as important to their identity. (#1). This shows how even after people immigrate to Canada, their background culture is still as important to them.

To make sure their traditions and culture goes on in their family, they often settle close to family and friends, who are more likely of similar ethnic background. (#2) As a result, the immigrants/refugees of Canada cluster together in their own groups, and create different parts/areas of cities in which different cultures are seen. This multiculturalism makes the cities more interesting and attracting to tourists. For example, in Toronto multiculturalism is shown in the different parts of the city, such as Chinatown, Greek town, or Little Italy. Apart from the culture, Canadas economy is also enriched with all its refugees. In 2010, Minister Jason Kenney said Canadas post-recession economy demands a high level of economic immigration to keep our economy strong, The refugees invest money in its economy by buying products such as furniture, groceries, and electronics.

As well as, when people move to Canada and become citizens, they have to start paying taxes, which also helps Canadas economy. Newcomers are also used to fill working positions as it was said in the CTV news article (Employers urged to use immigrants to fill jobs); employment analysts are looking to immigrants to fill the gap.(#3). More people means more people to fill the working positions that are needed to provide services for Canadas citizens and makes sure that no working position shortages occur. Refugees also promote tolerance towards other people which is the one of the main ingredients of creating peace. There are lots of programs and organizations that help people create tolerance towards other peoples cultures and backgrounds.

One of these organizations is Diversity Memphis which says tolerance and respect for all with the hope that greater understanding and acceptance of one another will make each of us stronger and lead our city to be a better place for everyone. (#4) Multiculturalism in the education system, also helps students; teaching and learning[¦] in multicultural classes, [..] is based upon consensus building, respect, and fostering cultural pluralism within racial societies. (#5) In conclusion, Canada has been and still is one of the most multicultural places compared to other countries, because of its welcoming acceptance of refugees and immigrants from all over the world. Apart from the fact that it shows how heartwarming and friendly the people in Canada are, the immigrants and refugees also improve Canadas economy and culture. As for the reason that they create diversity, invest in the economy, and promote tolerance between different people.
