Maroubra and Kogarah are suburbs of Sydney. Maroubra is a beach suburb of Sydney which is located 10 km south east of the central business district (CBD). However, Kogarah is slightly farther than Maroubra. The distance between Kogarah and the CBD is about 14km. On the other hand, Kogarah is a residential suburb. This report will compare and contrast the aspects of people, housing and services. The populations of these suburbs differ greatly. According to official statistics, Maroubra has a larger population than Kogarah. Maroubra has approximately 26,500 people, whereas Kogarah has about 10,900 people. The majority of the population in these suburbs is from 20 years old to 39 years old. 53% of people in Maroubra were born in Australia while in Kogarah the population is just 47%.

Furthermore, Maroubra has nearly 4% of people from UK and 3% of people from Indonesia. However, there are 7% of people from China and 4% of people from Greece living in Kogarah. There are many differences and similarities in the housing of the two suburbs. Both of these suburbs have over 42% of apartments. The median apartment price in Maroubra is more expensive than in Kogarah. In addition, the cost of having a house in Maroubra is about $1.050.000. On the other hand, the median house price in Kogarah is a lot cheaper than in Maroubra. Just spending about $650.000 will own a house in Kogarah. Services in these suburbs have many discrepancies.

Firstly, there are the train station and bus routes in Kogarah while Maroubra has no train station. Thats the reason why over 55% of people living in Maroubra drive to work by private transport whereas it is just 45% in Kogarah. Secondly, it is easy to find shopping centers, small stores and coffee houses in Kogarah and Maroubra. Due to setting up the train station in Kogarah, most of shopping centers, small shops and cafes were built near the train station instead of being on major roads like Maroubra. Besides, it takes about 3km from Maroubra to the major hospital while the major hospital was built in Kogarah.
