This film is a unique film that is available for the whole family to view. It has all the elements that an action/ adventure film has and even includes a little bit of romance. It is a humorous film that includes more than just an average adventure story plotline. It shows the journey of all the characters and how they develop a relationship with each other as well as their inner selves. They learn to work together and become close friends. The Goonies is about a group of young children (they call themselves the Goonies) that happen to find a treasure map. So they decided to go on the hunt for treasure in order to stop a sports club from buying their only home. When they reached the site to start their treasure hunt, the home they went in belonged to a group of criminals that have recently escaped from prison. The group of children get caught and most of them managed to escape, except a chubby boy nicknamed Chunk.

He tells the criminals about what they were doing and it gave the prisoners an idea to follow the Goonies. The Goonies surpassed many life or death challenges and manages to reach the place where the treasure was hidden. Chunk was trapped in a room with one of the criminals son that happened to be abnormal and looked kind of like a monster. He soon turned out to be a really nice guy that just wanted to go out. At the treasure site, the criminals and the Goonies battle each other for the treasure and managed to leave the place safe and sound. The criminals son then brings out the criminals and handed them over to the police. Luckily there was some treasure on them and it was enough for the Goonies to save their home. The movie is targeting young children and families.

This is so they could set out on their own adventure and learn that having each other is the most important thing in the world. Treasure does not equal to family and friends. This film appeals to the young audience because it has funny moments that the children would laugh at. The young actors of the film were very convincing and brought the film to life. The battles, the language, the funny jokes and kissing were very well done. The actor who played the son of the criminals (named Sloth) was very well done. The actor that played sloth moved and the voice actor made the character seem real which would engage the audience because it was such a nice character to be put into the story. The most amazing part is that the director kept the scene where they find a pirate ship away from the child actors so that when the ship scene was revealed to them, the reactions were real.

The techniques they used for this film was exquisite. It has many special effects like the giant octopus and the pirate ship was a full-sized model. One of these tricks involved One-Eyed Willies ship, which was actually an impressive full-sized pirate ship created under the direction of production designer J. Michael Riva. Donner forbade the child actors from seeing the ship until they filmed the scene wherein it is revealed to their characters. The characters first glimpse of the ship was thus also the actors first view of it, bringing about a more realistic performance. It was later noted that the full-sized version of the ship was destroyed after shooting because they could not find anyone who wanted it.

The messages that the film conveyed was that in order to save something you cherish, you must work as a team and not by yourself. For example, the Goonies wanted to save the main characters house, so they worked as a team to overcome obstacles in order to reach the treasure. In the end, they were able to save the house and developed a close relationship with each other. Therefore, it has been established that the Goonies is a movie recommended for all ages. It is a unique film showing the adventures of young children who learn to work together to escape life threatening challenges.
