William Jennings Bryan, an American politician and orator said that Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved. My future does not lie on the hands of my family and friends. My future depends on the choices that I make and the effort that I am willing to invest in whatever I want to achieve. I can be whatever I want to be when I put my future in my own good hands. People are often curious to know if they are destined to be wealthy or successful in life.
Opportunities may knock at our doors but when we are not ready to meet the opportunity due to our insufficient knowledge, skills or talents, the opportunity that will shape our future will slip out of our hands. It is easy to set a goal in life but it is a challenge to reach that goal. Like any high school graduates, it is my goal to get admitted in a university and earn a college degree. However, I will be able to attain that goal if I have a high school diploma, meet the required Grade Point Average and pass the college admission exam.
Having the opportunity to go to college is not an assurance that I am destined to get a college diploma. I have a choice on whether I should prioritize my studies or focus on my extra curricular activities. Earning a bachelors degree will depend on the choices that I make. The job opportunities that will come after college will highly depend on the knowledge, skills and talents that I have acquired throughout my life. Successful people like Tim Duncan, Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey did not earn their success overnight.
It took them years of hard work and determination to master their skills, build a good reputation and attain their status. They believe in the importance of education, focus on their goals in life and made an effort to succeed. My future may be uniquely different but I am determined to finish my studies and have a brighter future for myself and my future family. Hence, I will take control of my life and destiny will be under my control.
